In a significant anti-narcotics success, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Mizoram Police, have seized a massive cache of methamphetamine tablets with an estimated street value of Rs 45 crore. The operation took place in the Saitual district of Mizoram, leading to the arrest of two individuals suspected of involvement in drug trafficking.

Acting on precise intelligence regarding the movement of illicit substances along the Ngopa-Saitual road in northern Mizoram, a swift joint operation was initiated. An Assam Rifles team established a vehicle checkpoint and successfully intercepted the targeted vehicle. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 15 kilograms of banned methamphetamine tablets. The arrested individuals have been identified as Rabizul Haq and Naasiruddin, both reportedly from Barpeta, western Assam.

The recovered contraband, believed to have been smuggled from Myanmar, along with the apprehended suspects and their vehicle, have been transferred to the Saitual district Police for further investigation and legal processing. This seizure underscores the persistent efforts by security forces to combat the drug menace plaguing the region.

This latest bust follows other recent successes in the fight against narcotics. Earlier in November, Assam Rifles, in separate operations, seized heroin worth Rs 4.65 crore in Assam’s Cachar district and methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs 6 crore in the same district. Methamphetamine, often known as Yaba or ‘crazy drug’, is a highly addictive stimulant popular across India and neighboring countries.
