A pivotal summit is set to take place in Delhi on December 5th, as Russian President Vladimir Putin arrives for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit. This high-stakes meeting comes at a critical juncture, with global geopolitical tensions on the rise and persistent pressure from the United States on India to reduce its ties with Russia. Despite American attempts to create distance, India has maintained its strategic autonomy, continuing significant trade and defence collaborations with Moscow. The visit is expected to solidify this enduring partnership, with substantial deals anticipated in key sectors. Both nations aim to significantly boost bilateral trade, targeting USD 100 billion by 2030, a substantial increase from the current USD 68.7 billion. Defence cooperation is a major focus, with discussions likely revolving around advanced military hardware, including potential acquisitions of Sukhoi-57 fighter jets and additional S-400 missile systems. Furthermore, there are prospects for joint ventures in manufacturing cutting-edge defence systems like the S-500 within India. Beyond defence, the summit will explore new economic avenues, such as investments in the Arctic region and the development of the Vladivostok-Chennai maritime corridor. This strategic sea route promises to enhance connectivity and bypass existing chokepoints, creating new trade opportunities. In a move highlighting deepening human and economic ties, Russia is also set to welcome approximately 70,000 Indian workers under a new mobility agreement, underscoring a collaborative approach to job creation and economic development. The visit signifies a robust commitment between India and Russia, poised to reinforce their long-standing relationship amidst evolving international dynamics.
