Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for unwavering unity and the elimination of double standards in the global fight against terrorism. Speaking at the IBSA (India-Brazil-South Africa) Leaders’ Meeting in Johannesburg, Modi stressed the critical need for close coordination among the three nations on this vital issue. He further proposed the institutionalization of the IBSA National Security Advisor (NSA) level meeting to strengthen security cooperation. Modi highlighted that global institutions like the UN Security Council, which lack permanent representation from India, Brazil, and South Africa, are out of sync with 21st-century realities. He asserted that institutional reform is no longer an option but an urgent necessity. The Prime Minister also emphasized the transformative role of technology in human-centric development, suggesting IBSA could lead in emerging areas like Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and Artificial Intelligence. He proposed establishing an ‘IBSA Digital Innovation Alliance’ to share innovations such as UPI, CoWIN, and cybersecurity frameworks, aiming to boost digital economies and create scalable solutions for the Global South. Modi envisioned this alliance as a pathway to developing safe, reliable, and human-centered AI norms, with a potential launch at India’s AI Impact Summit next year. Describing IBSA as a unique platform connecting three continents, three democracies, and three economies, he noted its historical significance and timely relevance, especially following a series of Global South presidencies within the G20.
