The Bharatiya Janata Party’s state president and Leader of Opposition, Babulal Marandi, has leveled serious accusations against the Jharkhand government, alleging that it is creating new crimes to conceal existing ones. Marandi stated that fabricating new offenses to hide criminal activities has become a disturbing pattern for the government and the system in Jharkhand. Recent actions by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the coal mafia’s extensive operations in Dhanbad have unearthed alarming evidence. Most concerning is the alleged directive from certain ‘top police officials,’ whose wealth is purportedly inflated by illicit coal earnings, to ‘permanently eliminate’ some of the lower-level enforcers of the coal mafia.
Information suggests that individuals being questioned by the ED are targets of assassination plots aimed at preventing the truth from surfacing. This echoes past instances in the state where ‘evidence encounters’ were staged under the guise of apprehending criminals. Jharkhand has previously witnessed a Director General of Police accused of orchestrating killings for hire and setting new benchmarks for corruption, with even members of the ruling party leveling allegations against him.
The ED is urged to exercise extreme caution. In this environment, it is those who suppress truth, not those who speak it, who hold power. When power, the system, and organized crime converge, the denial of justice becomes a mere formality.
