The much-anticipated Winter Session of Parliament commences today, December 1, 2025, setting the stage for potentially intense legislative proceedings and robust discussions. This session, spanning three weeks until December 19, 2025, will feature 15 sittings and is expected to be a mix of government-led legislative business and opposition-raised concerns. The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) has finalized allocations for critical bills and debates. Key legislative proposals include the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill and Central Excise Bills, each slated for three hours of deliberation. The Supplementary Demand for Grants will also undergo a three-hour debate. Furthermore, a significant 10-hour debate on the ‘Vande Mataram’ issue has been proposed, pending the Speaker’s final approval. The government plans to introduce several bills, some without prior Standing Committee examination. The Health Security and National Security Cess Bill’s introduction has been recommended under specific constitutional clauses. Opposition parties are poised to highlight pressing issues such as electoral roll revisions, national security in light of recent events, alarming air pollution levels, the implementation of new labor codes, and ongoing farmers’ concerns. Leaders from the INDIA bloc are scheduled to meet to strategize their approach. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the media at 10 AM today at Parliament House, outlining the government’s agenda and perspective for the session.
