A shocking call for India to ‘break into pieces’ has been made by a retired Bangladeshi army general, Abdullahil Amaan Azmi. Speaking at an event in Dhaka, Azmi echoed recent anti-India sentiments expressed by Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir. Azmi, the son of a convicted war criminal, claimed that Bangladesh cannot achieve complete peace until India ceases to exist in its current form, alleging that India actively fosters internal unrest. He specifically accused India of supporting insurgents in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region from 1975 to 1996, citing the formation of the Shanti Bahini as evidence of Indian interference. Azmi also dismissed the 1997 Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord as a ‘sham.’ Defence experts view such remarks not as isolated incidents but as indicative of a prevailing anti-India mindset within certain Bangladeshi circles. They urge India to remain vigilant against such rhetoric, emphasizing the need for preparedness rather than emotional responses. This inflammatory statement comes amid rising anti-India sentiments and reports of attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh, potentially exacerbating bilateral tensions.
