England batter Zak Crawley expressed optimism following a robust performance in the closing stages of the first day of the second Ashes Test at The Gabba in Brisbane. A crucial 10th-wicket partnership between Joe Root and Jofra Archer propelled England past the 300-run mark, a significant achievement after their loss in the opening Test. Crawley himself contributed a valuable 76 runs off 93 balls, marking a significant improvement. Joe Root displayed resilience, reaching his first Test century in Australia and ending the day on 135 not out, helping England to a total of 325/9. The late surge, particularly the 61-run stand between Root and Archer, gave the team a positive outlook heading into day two. Crawley revealed the team’s strategy was to attack aggressively in the final hour, aiming to maximize their score or put Australia under pressure. Meanwhile, Australian bowler Mitchell Starc acknowledged England’s tactical approach, noting their willingness to take risks. Starc, who claimed six wickets on day one, highlighted the conditions and suggested day two could be favorable for batting, particularly in sunny conditions.
