MUMBAI: New Zealand scripted history by defeating India in a thrilling ODI series decider, grabbing their first-ever series victory in the country despite Virat Kohli’s majestic 131. The third match at Wankhede saw the Black Caps chase 308 with ease, winning by six wickets and 10 balls remaining.

India posted 307/9 after being sent in, thanks largely to Kohli’s fourth ton of the year. He walked in at 42/2 and rebuilt with patience, accelerating later to keep the scoreboard ticking. However, regular wickets at the other end prevented a bigger total, with only Ishan Kishan offering minor resistance.

In reply, New Zealand’s top order fired on all cylinders. Will Young and Rachin Ravindra provided a solid start, before Daryl Mitchell and Tom Latham took charge. Mitchell’s match-winning 75 not out, combined with Latham’s 42, outmaneuvered India’s attack. Spinners Washington Sundar and Kuldeep picked wickets but couldn’t stem the flow.

This victory is a testament to New Zealand’s depth and strategy. Coach Gary Stead’s men adapted brilliantly to spin-friendly conditions, something India has long dominated. The series saw tight contests, with each game going down to the wire, but NZ’s composure prevailed.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma reflected on the loss, pointing to bowling lapses as the key issue. Kohli, ever the fighter, remained optimistic, vowing improvements. For fans, it’s a reminder that cricket’s unpredictability keeps it the king of sports.

As New Zealand celebrates this landmark achievement, India must ponder their form slump at home. The win boosts NZ’s confidence for upcoming tours, while India eyes redemption in T20Is. Expect tactical tweaks from both sides in future clashes.
