The Supreme Court of India has refused to grant bail to SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia in the high-profile disproportionate assets investigation, scheduling the next hearing for February 2. The government sought and received a two-week extension to submit its counter-affidavit during Thursday’s hearing.

Majithia’s legal team pressed for interim relief, highlighting potential threats to his life in custody. Justices noted the gravity of these claims but chose to deliberate further post-response. This marks another chapter in Majithia’s legal battle that began with his dramatic arrest on June 25 amid statewide raids.

Enforcement teams targeted 26 sites, including his Amritsar home, confiscating electronics, deeds, and ledgers. Post-police remand, he’s been in judicial lockup at Nabha Central Jail. The voluminous August charge sheet, exceeding 40,000 pages with 200+ witness statements, traces back to the 2013 synthetic drugs expose implicating Rs 6,000 crore operations.

Court quashed direct drug links earlier, shifting focus to financial irregularities and laundering. Probes spanning five states uncovered Rs 700 crore in unexplained wealth, bolstered by testimonies from political peers in SAD and BJP. Vigilance insists on procedural compliance.

With political undercurrents swirling in Punjab, the February date looms large, potentially reshaping the SAD stalwart’s trajectory amid ongoing scrutiny.
