Moscow is mulling over an unexpected overture from U.S. President Donald Trump, who has invited Russian leader Vladimir Putin to sit on the ‘Board of Peace’ dedicated to Gaza reconstruction and stability. This revelation from the Kremlin marks a rare moment of potential U.S.-Russia collaboration post-Ukraine tensions.

Speaking to the press, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the diplomatic note. ‘We’ve received the formal invitation for President Putin via official channels and are studying it in detail,’ he noted, as reported by TASS. Peskov emphasized Russia’s hope for forthcoming clarifications from American counterparts on the board’s structure and objectives.

The initiative follows the successful completion of the Gaza peace plan’s initial stage in October 2025, brokered by Egypt, Qatar, the U.S., and Turkey. The Board of Peace will function as a high-level umbrella organization overseeing operations, with Trump at the helm alongside international presidents.

Global leaders, including those from India and Middle Eastern nations, have been approached. Reuters, referencing a leaked letter and charter, reports Trump’s lifelong presidency of the board, which begins with Gaza but eyes broader conflict resolution. Terms for members are capped at three years, allegedly demanding a $1 billion contribution for permanent status.

Critics among diplomats highlight risks to UN authority, viewing the board as a parallel power structure. With Russia’s Western isolation lingering, Putin’s potential involvement could reshape Middle East dynamics and signal thawing in superpower relations.
