West Bengal’s political landscape heated up in Nadia as BJP stalwart Jaganath Sarkar defended the Election Commission’s voter list revision drive, calling it essential for upholding democratic rights.

The Supreme Court’s recent mandate on Special Intensive Revision (SIR) prompted Sarkar to affirm the ECI’s mandate. In an IANS interaction, he asserted, ‘Purifying voter lists is the Commission’s core job. Dead people or migrants can’t legitimately vote. The apex court’s guidance aligns perfectly with this.’

Referencing Bihar’s SIR success, Sarkar dismissed opposition narratives. ‘They spread lies about living voters being struck off, but zero complaints reached the ECI. Clean lists led to NDA’s massive win. TMC awaits the same reckoning in Bengal assembly elections.’

Targeting Abhishek Banerjee’s jibe at BJP – labeling the SC order a stinging ‘slap’ – Sarkar countered fiercely. ‘TMC’s victories have hinged on infiltrators. They’re sneaking Bangladeshi Muslims into rolls by falsifying citizenship. This ploy crumbles now.’

Banerjee had taunted that BJP’s Bengal-bashing plans backfired, leaving them humiliated after trying to scare voters and question constitutional rights. Sarkar’s riposte underscores BJP’s strategy to expose what they term TMC’s vote-bank politics.

With elections looming, the SIR process has become a flashpoint. ECI’s commitment to accuracy could reshape outcomes, as parties clash over the sanctity of the ballot. Sarkar’s bold stance rallies BJP cadres, promising a no-holds-barred fight against perceived electoral fraud.
