In a display of grit and skill, PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth advanced past the opening round of the Indonesia Masters 2026 here in Jakarta on Tuesday. Sindhu dismantled Japan’s Manami Suizu 22-20, 21-18 in women’s singles, while Srikanth survived a marathon against Koki Watanabe 21-15, 21-23, 24-22.

Sindhu’s match was a rollercoaster. Down 2-11 early in the first game, she unleashed a six-point surge to level and eventually edge ahead. Her footwork and powerful clears overwhelmed Suizu, paving the way for a controlled second game victory.

Srikanth started strongly, dominating the first game with sharp angles and smashes. The second slipped away due to unforced errors, forcing a decider where he battled back from wobbles despite an early lead, securing the win with decisive strokes at 24-22.

Looking ahead, Sindhu awaits the winner of Line Kjaersfeldt vs. Han Qianxi, and Srikanth braces for Chou Tien Chen. The rest of India’s contingent faced setbacks: qualifiers Anmol Kharb and Aakarshi Kashyap entered the main draw, but Aakarshi and Kiran George bowed out quickly. Mixed doubles pairs Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto and Rohan Kapoor/Ruthvika Shivani Gaddam lost to French opposition.

As the tournament heats up, these victories provide a boost, but Sindhu and Srikanth know tougher tests loom. Their performances could define India’s hopes in this prestigious BWF Super 500 stop.
