In a significant address at Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Droupadi Murmu urged India and Spain to join forces against terrorism during her meeting with Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares. The Wednesday discussion highlighted a unified stance on eradicating terrorism’s every form and manifestation.

Both leaders affirmed their consensus on this critical issue, with President Murmu welcoming Albares warmly. She reflected on the historic bonds linking the two nations, enriched by centuries of trade, cultural exchanges, and shared democratic ideals.

Celebrating 70 years of diplomatic ties this year—designated as the Year of Culture, Tourism, and AI—relations are thriving economically. Trade and investments are surging, particularly in engineering, rail infrastructure, green energy, urban development, and defense-space sectors where Spain’s strengths complement India’s ambitions.

President Murmu voiced confidence in the India-EU FTA, predicting it will supercharge commerce between the partners. She stressed the importance of joint efforts in multilateral forums like the United Nations and G20 to advance collective goals of peace and stability worldwide.

‘Terrorism poses an existential threat to global order, demanding our pooled resources and resolve,’ she asserted. India’s relations with the EU continue to deepen, setting the stage for high-profile Republic Day guests from Europe, including the Presidents of the European Council and Commission.

This dialogue not only reinforces bilateral synergy but also positions India and Spain as key players in fostering a secure, prosperous world.
