PURULIA: Trinamool Congress heavyweight Abhishek Banerjee addressed a massive public meeting in Purulia on Wednesday, claiming that peace and stability have returned to the district only after TMC formed the government in 2011. He took direct aim at BJP’s sitting MP Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato, labeling him ineffective despite two terms in office.
Banerjee painted a grim picture of pre-2011 Purulia, riddled with Maoist terror, political violence, and stalled administration. The turnaround, he asserted, began with Mamata Banerjee’s rise to power, bringing infrastructure upgrades, better roads, and enhanced rail links.
Zeroing in on Mahato’s track record under the Modi regime, Banerjee highlighted persistent train delays affecting daily commuters. ‘Trains like Chakradharpur and Puruliya Express are always late to Howrah. What initiative has your MP taken?’ he challenged the audience.
Urging a complete BJP rout in Purulia, Banerjee vowed to resolve all local grievances within six months if TMC sweeps the seats. ‘Your demands are my priority. Post-election, we’ll deliver results faster than ever,’ he promised, emphasizing TMC’s proven governance model.
The rally, part of Banerjee’s ‘Abbar Jot Bo Bangla’ drive, underscores TMC’s strategy to reclaim strongholds by contrasting its achievements with rivals’ shortcomings ahead of polls.
