In a testament to resilience, China’s agricultural sector in 2025 delivered exceptional results, as revealed during a key press briefing in Beijing on January 22. Grain output soared to a record 714.9 billion kilograms, up by 8.4 billion from previous years, even as extreme weather events tested the nation’s farmlands.

Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs officials emphasized that all targets for the year and the 14th Five-Year Plan were successfully achieved. This steady momentum has bolstered high-quality socioeconomic progress nationwide.

Vegetable and staple supplies remained ample, filling the ‘vegetable basket’ to capacity. Notable advancements spanned multiple fronts: poverty alleviation victories were reinforced to avert reversals, agricultural technology and equipment received sustained boosts, and modernization levels rose markedly.

Villages transformed into attractive, functional spaces conducive to living and commerce, uplifting rural livelihoods. Deepening reforms accelerated development pace, fostering inclusive growth. These developments paint a picture of a dynamic rural economy poised for sustained expansion.

Experts view 2025 as a pivotal year, where strategic policies and farmer ingenuity turned potential crises into opportunities, ensuring food abundance and rural revitalization.
