In a bold pronouncement from New Delhi, Congress firebrand Atul Londhe Patil declared the BJP a existential threat to the nation, Maharashtra, and Mumbai’s vibrant spirit. Dated January 24, his remarks to IANS paint a picture of a party hell-bent on dismantling social harmony and twisting local politics.

Delving into recent developments, Patil dissected the Shinde government’s dynamics. ‘Shinde didn’t rise through popularity or deeds; BJP installed him. Can such a figure independently forge alliances? Absolutely not – it’s all BJP’s factional game,’ he asserted.

Mumbai, in Patil’s view, epitomizes inclusivity and meritocracy. The city thrives on individual excellence, open to all under constitutional protections, irrespective of background.

Patil accused the BJP of a deliberate divide-and-rule strategy, pitting communities against each other on linguistic, provincial, religious, caste, and gender lines. This, he claimed, distracts from pressing concerns: What lies ahead for Dharaavi? When will traffic ease? Why lags waste management? And why are roads perpetually cratered?

‘Citizens must prioritize these fundamentals over manufactured conflicts,’ Patil implored. Holding key roles in Maharashtra Congress as chief spokesperson and general secretary, his critique underscores deepening rifts ahead of crucial polls, positioning Congress as the defender of Mumbai’s progressive ethos.
