Assam is gearing up for a major administrative shift as Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the construction of a second Vidhan Sabha complex in Dibrugarh. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lay the foundation stone on January 30, heralding a new era for the tea-rich city.

In a post on X, Sarma hailed the development as a pivotal step toward making Dibrugarh Assam’s second capital. The move underscores the government’s commitment to decentralizing power, enhancing governance accessibility in upper Assam, and promoting equitable growth across the state.

This facility will play a crucial role in regional development by hosting legislative sessions outside Dispur, thereby improving efficiency and institutional outreach. It aligns with initiatives to expand infrastructure, urbanize key areas, and improve connectivity.

Sarma highlighted Dibrugarh’s rising stature as a multifaceted center, predicting that the complex will generate employment, stimulate local economies, and elevate the city’s administrative profile. The project is poised to deepen democratic ties and fulfill long-standing regional aspirations.

With this announcement, Assam signals its resolve for inclusive progress, ensuring no region is left behind in the march toward prosperity.
