Widespread student unrest has gripped universities over the UGC’s latest guidelines, prompting sharp rebuke from former Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra. Labeling the policy ‘blatantly unconstitutional,’ Mishra called for its outright revocation to restore equity in higher education.

Speaking candidly, Mishra highlighted how the new framework disrupts the balance established in the 2012 version, which safeguarded only SC and ST interests. By roping in OBCs separately, it risks deepening caste rifts. ‘No policy should segregate students by caste; equal rights are non-negotiable,’ he warned.

He advocated for robust safeguards like punishment for frivolous allegations and time-bound grievance panels. ‘Without these, the system invites misuse,’ Mishra noted. He urged universities to foster unity, not division through caste lenses.

Turning to a heartbreaking incident, Mishra paid tribute to Maharashtra’s Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, who perished in a devastating plane crash. Renowned for his global outreach and grassroots appeal, Pawar leaves a void in politics. ‘His dedication to the people was exemplary; this is a profound loss,’ Mishra reflected, offering heartfelt sympathies to the family via a poignant social media post.
