Delhi High Court delivered a strong verdict on February 5, declaring garbage dumping in unauthorized colonies and rural Delhi illegal. The decision stems from a PIL filed against the rampant disposal of waste, bringing much-needed relief to affected communities.

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj celebrated the judgment, slamming the ruling dispensation for ignoring pleas until forced by judicial intervention. He pointed to the shocking state in Kirari, where Bhalswa landfill waste has buried roads under layers of filth, causing flooding and health hazards.

Plastics and chemicals from the trash are seeping into the environment, poisoning water sources and air quality. Bharadwaj’s recent visit revealed streets elevated by garbage up to four feet, turning livable areas into health nightmares for the poor.

The party has long campaigned against such malpractices, exposing how government promises on waste reduction rang hollow amid these atrocities. Bharadwaj alleged a deliberate strategy to sideline rural and low-income areas.

This ruling not only validates residents’ struggles but also mandates action from MCD and authorities. If implemented effectively, it promises cleaner surroundings and safer living conditions, potentially reshaping Delhi’s waste management landscape.
