Shiv Sena (UBT) parliamentarian Priyanka Chaturvedi launched a blistering attack on the Modi government’s economic stewardship during a candid conversation on Friday. As PM Modi embarks on his third tenure, she called for equitable development that reaches every corner of society.

Despite grand visions of economic superpower status, Chaturvedi noted that average Indians see little benefit. Skyrocketing unemployment and deteriorating farmer conditions paint a grim picture. ‘Per capita income lags far behind the hype,’ she observed.

A glaring example is the zero-tariff entry for American farm goods into India, contrasted with hefty 18% tariffs on Indian products heading west. This imbalance, she argued, sabotages local agriculture and livelihoods.

Shifting to foreign policy, Chaturvedi expressed alarm at India’s unfavorable comparisons to Bangladesh and escalating tensions. She accused the ruling dispensation of undermining predecessors’ legacies through false narratives. ‘History stands as witness; leaders must own up with integrity.’

Parliamentary security row drew her ire too. Dismissing claims that women’s protests endangered the PM, she labeled the Speaker’s statement deplorable. ‘If 33% women MPs protest post-2029, will the PM skip sessions? Protest is a democratic right.’

Manipur’s turmoil, fueled by political maneuvering even under President’s rule, exemplifies governance failures. Chaturvedi insisted on urgent reforms in economy, trade fairness, and social justice. ‘Speeches won’t suffice; deliver results to restore faith in governance.’
