New Delhi is stepping up its digital game with the National Statistics Office (NSO) launching a beta Model Context Protocol (MCP) server linked to the e-Statistics Portal. This Friday debut marks a pivotal advancement in making official statistics AI-compatible, allowing seamless connections from user AI applications to vital government datasets.

Tailored for a broad audience—ranging from everyday citizens to academic researchers and corporate strategists—this platform enhances accessibility to authoritative data. The beta phase kicks off with seven powerhouse datasets: Periodic Labour Force Survey, Consumer Price Index, Annual Survey of Industries, Index of Industrial Production, National Accounts Statistics, Wholesale Price Index, and Environment Statistics. Expect more additions soon.

At its core, MCP empowers users to interrogate datasets on-the-fly, embed official stats into their analytics suites, automate reporting processes, and tap into diverse data sources through one efficient link. The result? Less downtime on data handling and more focus on deriving actionable insights.

This launch represents a strategic stride toward a robust data infrastructure essential for Viksit Bharat. It bolsters data-centric policy formulation across governance tiers while enabling informed public engagement in progress.

Arriving just before the 2026 AI Impact Summit, the MCP server highlights NSO’s proactive embrace of AI to revolutionize data utilization. It dovetails perfectly with MoSPI’s Working Group 6 initiatives under Dr. Saurabh Garg, championing AI democratization and technology-neutral data access.

Breaking down silos, the server speeds up professional tasks, sharpens business acumen, and arms decision-makers with real-time stats. Official numbers are now effortlessly integrable into popular AI frameworks.

Featuring datasets on key economic and social metrics, the platform will evolve with user input and tech upgrades. Visit the ministry site for access, docs, and assistance.
