The release of Shahid Kapoor’s ‘O Romeo’ is under serious threat following a lawsuit by Sanobar Sheikh, daughter of Hussain Ustara. She accuses the film of distorting her father’s character into a menacing gangster, far from the crime-fighting ally he truly was.
Speaking candidly, Sanobar detailed the grievances: ‘The trailer reveals aggressive car chases, brutal violence, and vulgar interactions with women—none of which reflect my baba’s life.’ Equipped officially with protective gear and firearms, Ustara collaborated with law enforcement against Mumbai’s underworld.
Her suspicions arose from Shahid’s promotional images mirroring her father, escalating with the trailer’s launch. Sanobar seeks either factual corrections or complete dissociation. ‘If it’s fiction without his name, viewers will still link it to him,’ she pointed out.
Drawing from personal history, she clarified the real narrative: her father, a producer, nurtured figures like Hussain and Usma as family, contradicting the film’s romantic angle. Based loosely on Hussain Zaidi’s book, the adaptation has twisted facts, causing family distress 28 years post his death.
‘Society questions us; children ask why,’ Sanobar shared, emphasizing Ustara’s virtuous reputation recently echoed by admirers. The controversy raises ethical questions in Bollywood about biopics and artistic license, potentially delaying ‘O Romeo’ co-starring Tripti Dimri amid courtroom drama.
