History was scripted in Harare as India’s Under-19 team demolished England by a massive 100 runs to secure their record-extending sixth World Cup title. Batting first after a winning toss, India posted 411/9, powered by a sensational century from opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
Suryavanshi’s 175 came off just 80 deliveries, laced with 30 boundaries – 15 fours and 15 sixes – in a knock for the ages. After an early stumble at 20/1 with Aaron George’s dismissal, he anchored a crucial 142-run stand with captain Ayush Mhatre (53 off 51).
Vedant Trivedi joined the fray next, adding 89 runs in quick time to reach 251. Vihaan Malhotra (30) and Abhigyan Kundu (40 off 31) kept the momentum, while Kanishk Chauhan’s fiery 37* propelled India to an intimidating total.
England’s attack was led by James Minto (3/??), with support from Sebastian Morgan and Alex Green (2 wickets each).
In reply, England never got going, folding for 311 in 40.2 overs. Early loss of Joseph Moore (17) set them back, though Ben Dawkins and Ben Mays (45 off 28) added 74. Dawkins continued with stands of 49 and 32, but the innings unraveled dramatically from 174/4 to 177/7.
Caleb Faulkner’s heroic 115 (67 balls, 9×4, 7×6) offered hope, but India’s pace attack prevailed. RS Ambarish starred with 3 wickets, backed by Deepesh Devendran and Kanishk Chauhan (2 each), and Ayush Mhatre.
This triumph showcases India’s depth in youth cricket, blending fearless batting with sharp bowling to dominate on the grandest stage.
