France has pioneered the future of sustainable transport by inaugurating the world’s first wireless electric vehicle (EV) charging highway. This groundbreaking 1.5-kilometer stretch, located near Paris, allows electric cars, buses, and trucks to recharge their batteries dynamically as they drive. Embedded copper coils beneath the road surface generate a magnetic field, which is then converted into electrical power by receivers on the vehicles. This innovative system can deliver up to 300 kW of power, comparable to fast-charging stations, ensuring EVs can maintain their charge over long distances. Verified by Gustave Eiffel University, the technology operates reliably even in adverse weather conditions like rain, snow, and ice. By eliminating the need to stop and plug in, this wireless charging solution significantly addresses range anxiety, a major hurdle for EV adoption. It also paves the way for lighter, more affordable EVs by reducing the necessity for massive battery packs. The embedded coil system boasts no moving parts, ensuring durability and low maintenance.
