The state government of Arunachal Pradesh is planning to launch the nation’s first private 2G ethanol plant, utilizing bamboo as a renewable feedstock. This initiative, announced by Minister Ojing Tasing, aims to propel the state towards clean energy. The announcement was made via social media following the Minister’s participation in a conference on ‘Arunachal Pradesh Leading in Sustainable Bio-industrial Development’ through video conferencing. Tasing hailed the initiative as a historic step in shaping a green future for the state. He emphasized that this ambitious project signifies more than just a technological advancement; it symbolizes Arunachal Pradesh’s commitment to leading India’s clean energy transition. The use of bamboo aligns with the state’s rich natural resources. The Minister highlighted that the ethanol plant will not only promote environmentally friendly industrialization but also generate new economic opportunities for local communities.

Ethanol is employed as an alternative fuel for vehicles. It is currently produced from crops like sugarcane and maize in a refined manner. It is supplied by mixing it with petrol. Its main objective is to reduce petrol consumption and pollution. It also aims to provide farmers with additional income from crops like sugarcane and maize.

Ethanol is mixed with petrol in a fixed quantity. E20 fuel is available in the market nowadays. New vehicles also have E20 written on them. This means that 20% ethanol is mixed in the petrol you are putting in the vehicle. This mixture of ethanol and petrol burns in the engine, which generates energy. Ethanol generates energy in the engine like petrol. Also, being completely natural, it causes less pollution.
