Nissan has ambitious plans for the Indian market, with a focus on launching four major products. These include a C-segment SUV, a subcompact MPV, a D-segment SUV, and an A-segment EV. The upcoming sub-4 meter MPV from Nissan will be a rebadged version of the Renault Triber, slated for launch in early 2026. Following this, a new mid-size SUV will also be introduced. This new compact SUV is expected to be based on the third-generation Renault Duster and is anticipated to hit showrooms by mid-2026. The mid-size SUV segment, where the Nissan Terrano once competed, is currently dominated by vehicles such as the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Hyundai Creta, Toyota Hyryder, and Kia Seltos. The Nissan Terrano was officially discontinued in India in 2020 due to poor sales and a weak dealership network. The new Duster SUV from Nissan will replace the discontinued Terrano in the company’s product lineup. However, it remains unclear whether the automaker will revive the ‘Nissan Terrano’ name or introduce the SUV under a completely new name. Leaked teasers and spy shots suggest that the upcoming mid-size SUV will feature a rugged look and a strong road presence. It will likely showcase Nissan’s signature grille, inverted L-shaped LED DRLs, and a flat bonnet at the front. Bold shoulder creases, 18-inch alloy wheels with prominent wheel arches, extensive body cladding, and roof rails will likely enhance its sporty appearance. The new Nissan SUV is expected to share its interior and many premium features with the new Duster. Reports suggest that it could offer even more features than its current models, potentially including a large touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, rear AC vents, multiple airbags, ESC, ADAS, and more. The engine setup may be sourced from the new Renault Duster. This implies that the new Nissan SUV could come with various petrol engine options, along with a hybrid variant that will be launched later. A CNG variant may also be offered.
