Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Suzuki Motor Plant in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, to mark the commencement of localized production of hybrid battery electrodes and to inaugurate the export of Maruti Suzuki’s initial global battery electric vehicle, the e-Vitara, to over 100 countries. The e-Vitara was first introduced in India in January 2025 at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. With a total production capacity of 2.6 million units annually across four Indian plants, the company exported more than 3.32 lakh vehicles and sold 19.01 lakh units in the domestic market during FY25 alone. In addition to the e-Vitara, other models like the Suzuki Fronx and Jimny have also become popular in international markets. The e-Vitara will compete against the Hyundai Creta Electric. While the e-Vitara offers a rear-wheel-drive module in select trims, the Hyundai Creta does not offer rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive options. According to earlier reports, the e-Vitara will feature a 75 kWh battery pack, with all-wheel-drive capability available in the Empowered trim. Furthermore, the SUV will include a 12.3-inch freestanding screen along with ADAS Level 2 safety features. The e-Vitara stands out as Suzuki’s first electric vehicle, incorporating features like ventilated seats, flexible boot space, and various modern amenities. The new HEARTECT-e platform, designed specifically for EVs, combines innovation, efficiency, and performance. The e-Vitara is powered by a 61 kWh Lithium-ion battery, tested for durability across extreme temperatures from -30 °C to 60 °C, providing an estimated range of around 500 km. The expected prices are detailed in the comparison table below.
