Skoda Auto is gearing up to expand its presence in the Indian automotive market by introducing more of its renowned global models. This strategic move aims to capture a wider customer base and add excitement to the market. However, the Czech manufacturer has decided to postpone its electric vehicle (EV) plans for India in the immediate future due to market uncertainties.

According to a senior company executive, while the core portfolio of locally produced vehicles like the Kushaq, Slavia, and Kodiaq will remain consistent for the upcoming year, iconic international models are slated for an India debut. This follows the successful reintroduction of the Octavia earlier this year. Skoda’s current offerings in India span a price range from approximately Rs 7 lakh to over Rs 40 lakh.

The company is experiencing its most robust sales performance in India to date, having sold over 61,607 units between January and October of the current year. This figure surpasses the previous annual record of 53,721 units set in 2022. Skoda aims to maintain its solid 2% share of the domestic passenger vehicle segment, with sales momentum expected to continue beyond the festive season.

Further enhancing its existing lineup, Skoda plans to introduce additional trims for the popular Kylaq model and will also be updating the Kushaq and Slavia. Regarding its electric vehicle strategy, the company acknowledges the global shift towards electrification but cites challenges such as Free Trade Agreement discussions and evolving EV policies in India as reasons for delaying its EV rollout. Despite these delays, Skoda remains committed to its long-term EV plans for the Indian market.
