The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding India’s E20 petrol policy. The hearing, set for September 1, 2025, will address challenges to the government’s mandate for ethanol blending in petrol. A bench comprising Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, along with Justices K Vinod and NV Anjaria, will preside over the matter. The PIL, initiated by Advocate Akshay Malhotra, seeks to ensure the continued availability of ethanol-free petrol (E0) at fuel stations. The litigation also demands clear labeling of petrol to indicate ethanol content, providing consumers with transparency about the fuel they are purchasing.
