Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to unveil its new SUV on September 3rd. Initially expected to be named the Escudo, the vehicle will instead be known as the Victoris, according to a recent leak. The SUV, internally codenamed Y17, had its name briefly appear in search results on Maruti Suzuki’s official website, confirming its identity as the company’s newest compact SUV. The Victoris will be positioned between the Brezza and Grand Vitara in Maruti’s lineup, utilizing Suzuki’s Global C platform, which was also used for the Grand Vitara. This platform sharing is expected to allow for competitive pricing. The Victoris may be slightly longer than the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The segment is crowded, with new entrants like the Kia Seltos facelift, Skoda Kushaq facelift, and Volkswagen Taigun facelift adding to the competition. Suzuki aims to differentiate itself through pricing and features. Powertrain options will likely include engines from the Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder, such as the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 103 PS and 139 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox, and an optional Suzuki AllGrip AWD setup. A 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrain will also be available. The Victoris will be retailed from Suzuki’s Arena showrooms. A CNG variant, projected to deliver 88 PS in CNG mode, is also a possibility. The Hyundai Creta currently leads the segment. The official reveal of the Victoris is slated for September 3rd, 2025.
