In August 2025, the mid-size and compact SUV segments once again demonstrated their dominance. While the sales performance of all automakers wasn’t uniformly positive, Hyundai Creta emerged as the top seller, with 15,924 units sold. This figure represents a 5% decrease from the 16,762 units sold the previous year. Despite this decline, the Creta remains a benchmark in the mid-size SUV segment, reflecting its continued popularity among Indian buyers.

Tata Nexon also put up a strong fight, with sales increasing to 14,004 units in August 2024, a notable 14% increase compared to the 12,280 units sold in August 2024. The Nexon’s strong performance highlights its ongoing popularity.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza experienced a significant 29% decrease in sales, dropping from 19,190 units in August last year to 13,620 units. However, it still ranks among the top-selling cars. Maruti Suzuki Fronx saw sales of 12,422 units, nearly matching the 12,387 units from August 2024. The Fronx remains a stable seller for Maruti in the compact crossover sector. Mahindra Scorpio’s sales reached 9,840 units, reflecting a considerable 29% decrease from the 13,787 units sold a year earlier. Tata Punch faced the most significant setback, with sales declining by 32% from 15,643 units in August 2024 to 10,704 units this year. Once a regular podium contender, Punch is now facing stiff competition from its rivals.

Toyota’s hybrid models surprised everyone with a 39% increase in sales, rising to 9,100 units in August 2025 from 6,534 units the previous year. This surge underscores Toyota’s growing popularity in the hybrid sector. Hyundai Venue’s sales reached 8,109 units, an 11% decrease from the 9,085 units in August 2024. Despite the decline, it remains a strong contender in the compact SUV segment. Kia Sonet’s sales fell to 7,741 units, a 23% decrease compared to 10,073 units the previous year.

Mahindra Thar saw a remarkable increase, with 6,997 units sold this August, up from 4,268 units last year, a 64% increase. This demonstrates the growing craze for the Thar among consumers.
