In a major milestone for India’s digital infrastructure, 5G services are now available in 99.9 percent of districts nationwide, while telecom penetration has climbed to 86.76 percent, revealed the Economic Survey 2025-26.

Over the past ten years, the telecom industry has transformed dramatically, bridging the gap between urban and rural connectivity. This surge from 75.23 percent density reflects concerted efforts to make high-speed internet accessible to all.

Central to this progress is the government’s strategic pillars: inclusivity for balanced growth, development through performance upgrades and reforms, acceleration via swift innovations, and security to safeguard the ecosystem.

The survey also spotlights the data center boom. By mid-2025, capacity reached 1,280 MW with a mix of private and public facilities. Emerging technologies like AI, IoT, cloud services, and 5G are set to drive this to 4 GW by 2030.

Space achievements add another layer of national pride. India manages 56 operational satellites across key categories. The 2025 SPADEX mission achieved autonomous docking, a feat shared by only four nations. Increased private involvement and the historic 100th Sriharikota launch of NVS-02 via GSLV-F15 on January 29 exemplify this momentum.

These developments signal India’s readiness for a tech-driven future, fostering economic growth and innovation across sectors.
