In a key meeting in New Delhi, MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George addressed the launch of the third phase of the India-EU Clean Energy and Climate Partnership (CECP), with European Commission Energy Director General Ditte Juul Jorgensen in attendance. The event underscores ongoing momentum in Indo-European green energy ties.

Parallel to this, the India-EU Free Trade Agreement has triggered a wave of commendations from across Europe. This comprehensive pact covers an array of sectors from merchandise and services trade to customs procedures, rules of origin, and innovative domains such as digital commerce and support for small and medium enterprises.

Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X about George’s speech, linking CECP to the broader India-EU strategic agenda from their landmark summit. It aims to bolster cooperation in prosperity and sustainability, paving the way for joint climate and energy endeavors.

From Bhutan, the Indian Embassy celebrated the FTA as a pivotal achievement, enhancing bilateral economic interactions and strategic partnerships. ‘India and EU emerge as trusted allies dedicated to transparent markets and equitable expansion,’ the statement read.

Finland’s President Alexander Stubb joined the chorus on X in Hindi: ‘Heartfelt thanks, Prime Minister ji. This agreement strengthens our economic and political bonds with India.’

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer provided timely insights, noting the FTA’s timing amid US tariff policies prioritizing homegrown manufacturing. ‘With Europe unable to offload all surplus to America, India becomes a prime alternative market,’ he observed, reflecting global trade realignments.

These milestones not only celebrate immediate successes but also lay the groundwork for enduring India-EU collaboration across trade, energy, and sustainability fronts.
