Deepak Tijori, an actor once considered a competitor to major Bollywood stars, has faded from the spotlight. Known for roles in films like ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar,’ ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa,’ and ‘Ghulam,’ Tijori was once a prominent figure in Bollywood but now appears in smaller roles. On his 64th birthday, it’s worth revisiting his career, including the roles he missed out on and those he eventually secured.

At one point, Tijori was in contention with Salman Khan for a role. Though he lost out to Khan, Tijori later won a role that Akshay Kumar had been rejected for. Tijori made his Bollywood debut in 1988 with the film ‘Tera Naam Mera.’ The following year, in 1989, ‘Maine Pyar Kiya,’ directed by Sooraj Barjatya, featured Salman Khan in the lead. Tijori also auditioned for this film.

During an interview, Tijori shared that the filmmakers auditioned several actors for ‘Maine Pyar Kiya.’ Ultimately, the choice came down to Salman and Tijori. Initially, Tijori was informed that he had secured the role. However, Salman Khan was later cast in the film. Barjatya explained to Tijori that after comparing auditions and showing them to families, the women preferred Salman due to his looks and cuteness. Tijori understood and agreed that Salman was the right choice for ‘Maine Pyar Kiya.’

In 1992, Mansoor Khan’s sports-romantic film ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’ was released. Aamir Khan played the lead role, and Tijori played the second lead, Shekhar Malhotra. The role was originally intended for Milind Soman, who began shooting but left the film after a few days. Tijori then took over the role, gaining popularity. Akshay Kumar had also auditioned for this role but was rejected. Tijori’s last film appearance was in ‘Tipppsy,’ released in May 2024, where he acted and directed. While his popularity in the 90s was significant, it has diminished. He has also appeared in some music videos.
