The ‘Conjuring’ series is a prominent name when discussing horror films, having redefined the genre. The franchise includes a total of nine films, each impressive in its own right. The first film in the series was released in 2013. Its subtle thrills and jump scares were enough to terrify anyone. One of the reasons for the film’s popularity is the involvement of Ed and Lorraine Warren, two of the biggest names associated with the stories.

Whether or not you’ve seen The Conjuring, you’ve likely heard their names. This couple’s haunted stories are enough to keep you up at night. Few people know that the Conjuring universe has about nine films, and all of them are somehow connected. Now, the final film of the franchise has arrived, touted as the last part of The Conjuring. Is this film one of the best in the franchise? Let’s find out.

‘Conjuring: The Last Rites’ tells the story of Ed and Lorraine Warren’s final case, connected to the Smurls family. Ed and Lorraine are getting older, and they live happily with their daughter Judy. They have taken a break from their work and want to focus entirely on their daughter. Judy also has some powers, similar to her parents, which sets her apart from others.

A twist in the story comes when bizarre events begin to occur in a family far away from the Warrens. When Ed and Lorraine go there, they discover that the demon has a deep connection to their old case. What is this relationship? You’ll only find out by watching the film. This time, there’s less haunting and more emotions. A glimpse of the Annabelle doll was shown in the trailer, but if you’re going expecting a confrontation with Annabelle or the Vallak Nun, you’re mistaken.

Is it the best film in the universe? The answer is no. The film’s background music will keep you on the edge of your seat, but the jump scares aren’t new. They will surprise you, but it’s difficult to be completely frightened. However, for those who are not big horror fans and haven’t seen much horror, this film won’t take long to become a nightmare. As always, the actors playing Ed and Lorraine, Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, are brilliant in their roles. Mia Tomlinson has also done a great job.

A hallmark of the Conjuring universe is the depth of its stories. There is such silence in these films that it starts to prick at your ears, but this film seems to be missing that part a little. However, it has nothing to do with the connection; you will still get a great experience from this film. Enjoy the film with your family, but keep young children away; the film has been rated R.
