The 53rd International Emmy Awards saw director Imtiaz Ali’s acclaimed film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ nominated in two significant categories. Lead actor Diljit Dosanjh was a contender for ‘Best Performance by an Actor’, while the film itself vied for ‘Best TV Movie/Mini-Series’. Unfortunately, the project did not secure any wins at the New York City ceremony. In the ‘Best TV Movie/Mini-Series’ category, ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ faced stiff competition from international productions including Germany’s ‘Herrhausen: The Banker and the Bomb’, the UK’s ‘Lost Boys and Fairies’, and Chile’s ‘Vencer o Morir’. The award ultimately went to ‘Lost Boys and Fairies’. Similarly, Diljit Dosanjh was nominated alongside David Mitchell for ‘Ludwig’, Oriol Pla for ‘Yo, adicto’, and Diego Vasquez for ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’. The coveted ‘Best Performance by an Actor’ award was presented to Spanish actor Oriol Pla. Despite the losses, both Diljit Dosanjh and Imtiaz Ali graced the International Emmys red carpet, with Dosanjh making a memorable appearance with his signature ‘namaste’. Representatives from Netflix India, including VP of Content Monika Shergill and Director of Original Films Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, were also in attendance. Earlier, Ali had described ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ as a profound love story between an artist and their craft, emphasizing the pure devotion to performance over external validation.
