A major backlash has hit the Netflix series ‘Ghooskhore Pandit’ with Lucknow police filing an FIR against its director and crew at the behest of UP CM Yogi Aditynath. The charges stem from claims that the show’s title and storyline malign the Brahmin community, fueling demands for its immediate takedown.

The Hazratganj police station took swift action following complaints from irate Brahmin groups. Inspector Vikram Singh explained that the title, translating to ‘Bribery Priest’, directly offends a specific caste by associating it with corrupt practices, leading to seething resentment across social organizations.

‘Videos and promotions of the series on Netflix and social platforms have gone viral, intensifying the hurt sentiments,’ Singh noted. Protests are brewing, with groups threatening large-scale demonstrations unless the offensive content is banned.

The FIR includes grave provisions for promoting enmity between communities and disturbing public tranquility. Police are probing the intent behind the release, viewing it as a calculated move to provoke division.

In a firm stance, authorities reiterated UP’s commitment to safeguarding peace. ‘We will not tolerate elements that play with social fabric or law and order,’ the SHO affirmed. This development arrives as regulators tighten oversight on streaming platforms amid rising complaints over culturally insensitive narratives.

The case could set precedents for future OTT regulations, with the Brahmin community rallying support from political circles. Netflix has yet to comment, but the pressure mounts for accountability in content creation.
