Mahesh Bhatt, a prominent figure in Bollywood, is known for directing films that often reflect societal issues. While he has directed several successful movies, a number of his films have unfortunately underperformed at the box office. Born in Mumbai on September 20, 1948, Bhatt began his directorial journey with ‘Manzilen Aur Bhi Hain’ in 1974. He went on to direct acclaimed films like ‘Lahu Ke Do Rang’, ‘Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahi’, ‘Sadak’, ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke’, and ‘Aashiqui’. This article explores five of his films that did not achieve commercial success.

‘Tadipaar’ (1993) featured Mithun Chakraborty, Juhi Chawla, and Anupam Kher. Despite having music by Nadeem-Shravan, the film flopped, with a lifetime collection of 2.30 crore.

‘Zakhm’ (1998), directed and produced by Mahesh Bhatt, starred Pooja Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, and Kunal Khemu. Although the film was unsuccessful, the song ‘Gali Mein Aaj Chand Nikla’ became a hit. The film’s lifetime collection was 4.22 crore.

‘Duplicate’ (1998), produced by Yash Johar and directed by Mahesh Bhatt, starred Shah Rukh Khan in a double role alongside Juhi Chawla and Sonali Bendre. Despite its popular songs, the film was a box office failure, earning a lifetime collection of 10.17 crore.

‘Dastak’ (1996), directed by Mahesh Bhatt and produced by his brother Mukesh Bhatt, featured Mukul Dev, Sharad Kapoor, and Sushmita Sen. The film was a flop, with a lifetime collection of 3.01 crore.

‘Chaahat’ (1996), directed and produced by Mahesh Bhatt, featured Shah Rukh Khan, Pooja Bhatt, and Naseeruddin Shah. While the film’s music was well-received, the movie itself did not perform well, accumulating a lifetime collection of 6.87 crore.
