Ranveer Singh Faces Legal Action Over ‘Kantara’ Daiva Mimicry

Actor Ranveer Singh is reportedly facing legal trouble after mimicking a sacred ritual from the film ‘Kantara Chapter 1’. The controversy erupted following his appearance at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on November 28, where he reenacted Rishab Shetty’s portrayal of Chavundi Daiva. A Bengaluru-based advocate, Prashanth Metal, has filed a complaint with the High Grounds Police Station, citing alleged illegality and offense to the Tulu-speaking community and millions of Hindus. The complaint, registered under sections of the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, accuses Singh of making derogatory remarks about Ullalthi Daiva. This incident occurred shortly after Singh issued a public apology, stating his intention was to admire Shetty’s performance and that he deeply respects all cultures and beliefs. The ‘Kantara’ films have shed light on Daiva worship, a significant spiritual practice in Karnataka’s Tulu Nadu region, involving divine invocations through rituals and dances. The portrayal of Daiva in the film emphasizes its spiritual power and emotional significance for devotees.
