Aditya Dhar’s upcoming spy-action thriller ‘Dhurandhar,’ starring Ranveer Singh, has encountered a significant legal hurdle. The parents of the late Major Mohit Sharma have petitioned the Delhi High Court, seeking a stay on the film’s release and certification. Their primary concern revolves around the alleged depiction of real-life individuals, including their son, without explicit consent.

The High Court has now directed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to thoroughly review all objections raised by the petitioners before making a final decision on the film’s certification. This directive underscores the court’s commitment to addressing the sensitive nature of biographical portrayals in cinema.

According to legal representatives, the court also suggested that if any aspects of the film pertain to army operations or personnel, the relevant army authorities, such as the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI), should also be consulted. This multi-agency review aims to ensure all concerns are meticulously examined.

The petitioners specifically highlighted that the film’s teaser, released in September, prominently features a character based on the late Major Mohit Sharma, indicating a central role for the real-life figure. They argue that other characters might also be inspired by actual individuals, further emphasizing their plea for careful scrutiny.

‘Dhurandhar’ is penned, directed, and co-produced by Aditya Dhar, with production by Jio Studios and B62 Studios. The ensemble cast includes Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal.
