Pawan Kalyan’s latest film, *They Call Him OG*, fails to deliver the blockbuster needed to solidify his stardom. The movie, despite its high body count, suffers from a convoluted narrative filled with senseless violence and excessive brutality. Director Sujith, following his work on the critically panned *Saaho*, offers little improvement in this project. The characters are depicted as perpetually angry and volatile, readily resorting to violence. The film avoids traditional Telugu cinema elements like song breaks, possibly due to Kalyan’s preference. Kalyan’s portrayal of a stoic, no-nonsense character is stifled by the script, which seems to lack coherence. He plays a samurai-like figure, the sole survivor of a monastery attack, now seeking revenge against the villain Omi, played by Emraan Hashmi. The anticipated face-offs between Kalyan and Hashmi disappoint, lacking meaningful conflict. The action sequences lack control and context, unlike the choreographed stunts in *Mirai*. The film’s reliance on glorifying the hero and a heavy background score ultimately fails to elevate a basic revenge story.
