The makers of ‘Ufff Yeh Siyapaa’ seem to have reveled in their own imagined brilliance, believing they’d crafted a comedic masterpiece, particularly when they decided on a silent film. The film, a wordless endeavor, follows in the footsteps of Kamal Haasan’s ‘Pushpak,’ though the execution falls far short. Sohum Shah, typically a dependable actor, struggles in this role, portraying a potbellied, lecherous man. Nushrratt Bharuccha plays his distressed wife, with her performance lacking depth. The film’s plot involves her appearing as a murdered corpse, seemingly to extend her screen time. Despite the absence of dialogue, the background score by A R Rahman is overly loud, and the visuals are reminiscent of a daytime soap opera. Director G Ashok ignores the essential visual storytelling of silent films, resulting in a confusing narrative. Nora Fatehi also appears, but her character is merely an object of the protagonist’s gaze. The film features talented actors like Omkar Kapoor and Sharib Hashmi, whose appearances are largely inconsequential. The film fails to captivate, creating a viewing experience that is less than satisfactory.
