Opposition parties are criticizing the Election Commission and the BJP regarding the revision of voter lists in Bihar. The Election Commission removed the names of 6.5 million people from the voter list. In response, Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav stated that the Election Commission should demand the resignation of those MPs from Bihar who were elected based on the 6.5 million incorrect voters.

Furthermore, he addressed a bill presented in Parliament regarding the removal of PMs and CMs for committing serious offenses, stating that the proposal to remove the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, and ministers from their posts after 30 days of detention is the BJP’s final move. He alleged that the BJP government is attempting to introduce new laws every day to commit fraud. He also mentioned that the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) allies will not support it.

Background on the 6.5 Million Removals

The revision of voter lists in Bihar has caused an uproar. On August 9th, the draft voters list was revealed. It was announced that approximately 22.34 lakh names were removed, citing deaths, while 36.28 lakh names were removed due to permanent migration. Moreover, 7.01 lakh names were removed because they were not found at their registered addresses.

Several petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court challenging this Special Intensive Revision (SIR), which is being conducted only in Bihar, where assembly elections are scheduled in the coming months. One of the arguments of the petitioners was that the names were removed in a non-transparent manner.

    MP Demands Resignations
The MP from Azamgarh stated, “I want to ask the Election Commission that if the names of 6.5 million people are incorrect in the voter list, how can the MPs whose names were created from these very votes be correct? Take the resignations of these MPs. Conduct elections for new MPs. If the voter list was wrong, then the election of the MPs was also naturally wrong.”

Regarding the Bill to Remove PMs and CMs

On August 18th, the Election Commission announced that it had made public the draft voter list from which approximately 6.5 million names were removed under SIR in Bihar. Regarding the bill to remove PMs and CMs, he said that it is not a constitutional amendment, but rather unconstitutional. It is the BJP’s final tactic. Attempts are being made to bring new laws every day to commit fraud. The Samajwadi Party has opposed it. The opposition has collectively opposed it.

He further stated, “Forget the opposition, even their own alliance partners will not support it. Whoever does not comply with the central government will be targeted, even if they belong to the BJP.”

Reacting to the statement by Pooja Pal, a former MLA expelled from the Samajwadi Party, that she feels her life is in danger, Yadav said that it is a political stunt. He also expressed confidence in the victory of India alliance candidate B. Sudarshan Reddy in the Vice-Presidential election.
