Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has strongly criticized the Narendra Modi government’s handling of the situation in Ladakh, specifically condemning the arrest of activist Sonam Wangchuk. Wangchuk, who has been peacefully advocating for full statehood for Ladakh-Kargil and pressing for rights related to education, healthcare, and employment, was arrested. Singh denounced the arrest as a display of dictatorial governance, likening it to Hitler-style tactics. He warned that suppressing the voices of the people of Ladakh could lead to widespread public unrest.

In a video message, Singh highlighted Wangchuk’s dedication to the people of Ladakh, emphasizing his work in educating disadvantaged children. He noted that Wangchuk has spent five years demanding that the government grant the people of Ladakh their rights under the Sixth Schedule. These demands include access to education, employment, land, and healthcare, alongside full statehood for Ladakh-Kargil. Singh labeled Wangchuk a true patriot and a Gandhian leader, criticizing the imposition of the National Security Act (NSA) on him.

Singh pointed out Wangchuk’s peaceful protests, including a hunger strike and a padyatra from Ladakh to Delhi, during which Wangchuk appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He questioned why Wangchuk was being punished for peacefully advocating for the rights of the people of Ladakh. Singh further criticized the government’s actions, noting that Wangchuk had previously urged for peace and even ended his own hunger strike to promote non-violence. Singh urged PM Modi to reconsider, underscoring the patriotism of the people of Ladakh, who have consistently opposed Chinese incursions and supported the Indian Army and the Government of India. Singh concluded by stating that the AAP stands in solidarity with Sonam Wangchuk, the people of Ladakh, and their demands.
