Investigations into the Air India plane crash have yielded significant progress with the successful matching of DNA samples from 125 victims. Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi announced that the mortal remains of 83 deceased individuals have been returned to their families. Contact has been established with the families of 124 victims.

The Home Minister visited the DNA testing facility in Gandhinagar on June 18. Testing is being conducted by teams from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU). Sanghavi commended their dedicated, around-the-clock efforts. As of 10:58 pm on Monday, 131 DNA matches had been confirmed, with six additional DNA certificates scheduled for release to the Civil Hospital shortly thereafter.

Senior police officials, along with the FSL team, were overseeing the process, as per the Home Minister. The teams have worked tirelessly over the past three days to expedite the return of remains to families. The London-bound Air India flight crashed on Thursday, June 12, in the Meghani Nagar area near Ahmedabad airport. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members, was en route to London. All but one of the 242 individuals onboard perished shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport.
