Amit Khare, a former bureaucrat, has been named Secretary to the newly elected Vice President, C.P. Radhakrishnan. The appointment, authorized by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, is for a three-year term. Khare’s position, effective from the date of assuming charge, includes the rank and pay of a Secretary, as stipulated in the official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training.

The official order from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet confirmed the appointment of Amit Khare, a retired 1985-batch IAS officer from the Jharkhand cadre, as Secretary to the Vice-President of India.

Khare, a key figure in the development and implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, served as Advisor to the Prime Minister from October 2021, handling social sector subjects within the Prime Minister’s Office.

Throughout his career, Khare held several significant positions, including Secretary of Information & Broadcasting, Secretary of School Education & Literacy, and Secretary of Higher Education. He is also known for bringing to light the ‘fodder scam’ of Bihar.

Khare’s educational background includes a degree from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, and a postgraduate degree in Business Administration from IIM Ahmedabad. He also attended Kendriya Vidyalaya, Hinoo in 1977.

    C. P. Radhakrishnan was sworn in as India’s 15th Vice President at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office. Radhakrishnan, the NDA’s candidate, won the election with 452 votes, defeating B. Sudershan Reddy who received 300 votes. Before his nomination, Radhakrishnan served as the Governor of Maharashtra.
