Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a strong critique against the opposition, alleging that they are plotting to govern from jail if convicted. Shah’s comments were directed at the opposition’s stance on the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill. He suggested that the opposition aims to transform correctional facilities into centers of power, where high-ranking officials would take orders from incarcerated leaders. Shah made these remarks during an interview. He discussed the details of the newly introduced bill, “The Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill.”

Shah stated, “Even today, they are trying that if they ever go to jail, they will easily form the government from jail. The jail will be made CM House, PM House and the DGP, Chief Secretary, Cabinet Secretary or Home Secretary will take orders from the jail,”.

Shah expressed confidence that the bill would pass in Parliament. He predicted that many members of the Congress and the opposition would support the bill on moral grounds. The 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill, along with the Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, were introduced in the Lok Sabha during the Parliament Monsoon Session. The proposed amendment aims to prevent individuals in key constitutional roles, such as the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and Ministers at both the central and state levels, from governing while incarcerated. The bill includes a provision allowing accused politicians to seek bail within 30 days of arrest. If bail is not secured within this timeframe, the leader will be removed from office or automatically disqualified from their duties. They may resume their position if granted bail later.
