The Aam Aadmi Party has strongly condemned the recent attack on Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a public hearing. From AAP’s National Convener Arvind Kejriwal to the Delhi state unit’s head and other leaders, the attack has been denounced as being against the democratic system, with calls for strict action against the perpetrator. Arvind Kejriwal stated on X that the attack was highly reprehensible. He emphasized that while disagreements and opposition of ideas are acceptable in a democratic system, there is no place for violence. He expressed confidence that the Delhi Police would take appropriate action and hoped the Chief Minister was safe and healthy.

AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj stated that violence of any kind has no place in our society and country, a principle taught by Mahatma Gandhi 100 years ago. He questioned which parties and ideologies are promoting and encouraging violence in the nation and society.

Bharadwaj further stated that violence is not limited to just attacking a Chief Minister. When SSC students and teachers are demanding their rights and face police brutality, it is also violence. When farmers stood firm for months in sun, rain, and cold, and faced police brutality, with their heads broken and being dragged on the ground, it is also violence. He added that the police’s behavior with citizens in small cases is also a form of violence, as the authority to punish resides solely with the court.

Bharadwaj clarified that the Aam Aadmi Party will not suggest that the attack happened because the people of Delhi were angry with Rekha Gupta. He acknowledged that the public might be displeased with her, but that doesn’t justify violence. He urged the BJP to consider the fact that AAP is supporting them wholeheartedly because violence is wrong in principle, and all parties should condemn it.

Bharadwaj added that no attempt should be made to justify any attack, as the BJP repeatedly did during attacks on Kejriwal. He emphasized that regardless of the cause, violence is not justifiable, and the BJP should reflect on which parties and institutions are spreading the poison of violence in society.

Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, stated that the attack on Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is highly condemnable. She reiterated that there is space for dissent and opposition in a democracy but not for violence. She expressed hope that the Delhi Police would take strict action against the perpetrators, and wished the Chief Minister safety.

AAP’s National Media Incharge, Anurag Dhanda, stated that the Aam Aadmi Party firmly believes that violence has no place in democracy. He strongly condemned the attack and requested the Delhi Police to conduct a thorough investigation and punish the culprits severely. He also wished for the complete safety of Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
