West Bengal’s political landscape heated up further as BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari fired off a letter to the Raj Bhavan, spotlighting the brutal violence that gripped Beldanga. Demanding the Governor’s direct involvement, Adhikari painted a grim picture of anarchy under the Mamata Banerjee-led administration.

According to the missive, the unrest began with heated exchanges between rival party cadres but quickly devolved into mayhem. Vehicles were torched, homes vandalized, and innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire. Adhikari claimed over a dozen people were hospitalized, with BJP workers bearing the brunt of the attacks. He lambasted the district magistrate and police superintendent for allegedly turning a blind eye, allowing TMC loyalists free rein.

This isn’t the first time Beldanga has witnessed such turmoil. The town’s history of riots dates back years, often fueled by electoral rivalries and underlying social divides. Adhikari urged the Governor to invoke constitutional powers, suspend errant officials, and ensure fair policing. ‘Lawlessness cannot be the new normal in Bengal,’ he asserted.

As opposition voices grow louder, the TMC has dismissed the allegations as politically motivated. Party spokespersons insist that adequate security measures were in place and blamed BJP for instigating trouble. Meanwhile, the Governor remains a pivotal figure, with his past interventions in sensitive matters lending weight to Adhikari’s plea. For the people of Murshidabad, peace hangs by a thread, underscoring the urgent need for impartial oversight.
