Ahead of the inauguration of the Yellow Line of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro, a project connecting RV Road with Bommasandra via Electronic City, discussions have arisen regarding the allocation of credit for the facility. Karnataka leaders have emphasized that the Namma Metro is a collaborative venture between the central and state governments, with equal financial contributions from both. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to launch the Yellow Line service on August 10, state leaders are highlighting the state government’s role to ensure due recognition. The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Yellow Line on August 10 at IIM Bengaluru, followed by a metro ride with Karnataka’s Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, and local legislators. The Deputy Chief Minister, who also oversees Bengaluru’s affairs, stated that both the central and state governments are stakeholders in the metro project. He underscored that the inauguration date was set following a request made to the Prime Minister by the Chief Minister and himself. Shivakumar emphasized that serving the public is the utmost priority, regardless of who receives credit. The Yellow Line, spanning 19.15 km with 16 stations, was constructed at a cost of Rs 7,610 crore. An appeal for funds for the double-decker project’s land acquisition will be submitted to the Prime Minister. Shivakumar also mentioned that they are looking to the MPs to secure funds for the metro’s extension and the building of more double-decker lines. He added that safety is paramount, with the Commissionerate of Railway Safety granting clearance for the Yellow Line on July 31. The Deputy Chief Minister also noted that train frequency will increase to 10 minutes once more train sets arrive. He also congratulated all those involved in the Yellow Line project on behalf of the state government.
